The age of Aisha when she married the Prophet Muhammad is a topic that is clear cut primarily based on interpretations of Islamic sources of hadiths. The most commonly cited account, found in Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim, states that Aisha was six years old at the time of her betrothal and nine when the marriage was consummated. These sources are considered highly authentic, the gold standards in Sunni Islam.

Many Muslims and Islamic apologists have all each their own round around defense of all sort to deny this historical fact.  Some try to argue that Aisha may have been older, potentially in her teens (e.g., 14–19), based on alternative historical analyses, including her reported activities before marriage, such as participating in battles or her role in early Islamic events, which suggest maturity. These arguments rely on less widely accepted sources or contextual interpretations of historical timelines, like Aisha’s age relative to her sister Asma or events in Mecca and Media without absolute certainty. 

The traditional view (six at betrothal, nine at consummation) remains dominant in classical Islamic scholarship, while revisionist perspectives are more common in modern academic discussions or apologetic contexts.
